With their 325 Hudson project gaining momentum in Manhattan, Amerimar Enterprises and industry veteran Hunter Newby have taken on a new project. Amerimar has purchased the carrier hotel at 717 South Wells Street, and will be redeveloping it to include a new “Meet Me Room”.
Chicago’s colo and interconnection market has long been centered on 350 E.Cermak and Equinix, too much so in the eyes of many. Two miles away at 717 South Wells, they hope to tap into the need for diversity by providing an alternative, neutral interconnection point based on the same sort of business model they’ve done in New York over the past couple of years.
The building has 100,000 square feet of space spread over 10 storys, and already has a varity of fiber network options. It’s been a carrier hotel for a decade and a half already, so I’m sure there will be other refits and upgrades to be made beyond a new Meet-Me-Room.
It’s actually the third such project for this team, as earlier this year Amerimar and Hunter Newby teamed up to take out 401 North Broad in Philadelphia. One is just an investment, two says there is a plan, and three says the plan is working… Where will the fourth be?
